She was the mother of David Elwell Maxwell, private of Second Florida Regiment, who served three years in Virginia. On August 6, 1863, he was commissioned as Captain of Company D, First Florida Cavalry Regiment, Dismounted and was discharged at Tallahassee, Fla. on May 24, 1865.

She was also the mother of Francis Oliver "Frank" Maxwell, Sgt. Company C, Fifth Florida Regiment and died Nov. 14, 1862 in Richmond, Va., at the age of 18 years and is buried at Oakwood Cemetery in Richmond. He was nursed by Martha Reid, who was Superintendent of the Florida Hospital all the four years of the war.

Mrs. Maxwell was the "Mother" of Martha Reid Chapter. She, it was, who suggested the name of Martha Reid and which was adopted unanimously.
