Mims was born in Magee on October 17, 1916, a son of the late Nancy (Williamson) and John Rankin. Mims is survived by: eight daughters, Virdia Kitchens, of IL; Geneva Ross, of Mendenhall; Nancy Rankin, of IL; Subrena McLaurin, of Brandon; Janet Grishby, of Jackson; Jacqueline Rankin, of Ocean Springs: Josephine Carter, of Raymond; and Debbie Warren, of Magee; four sons, Odell Rankin, of Mendenhall; Mims Rankin, Jr., of Magee; Martin Rankin, of Magee; and Washington John Rankin, of CA.
He is also survived by: fifty-six grandchildren, one hundred four great grandchildren, and thirty-five great, great grandchildren: a sister, Lillie Mae Rankin, of Laurel; and a sister-in-law, Vallie Rankin of Jackson.
Mims was preceded in death by: his wife, Earline Hayes Rankin; a son, Carlwell Rankin; and two grandchildren, Angel Hall and Leon Hall.
Visitation is Friday, February 11, 2011, from 5 pm to 8 pm at Tutor Funeral Home, Magee.
Religious services will be at Goodwater CME Church, Magee, at 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 12, 2011, with Minister Darell Harrington and Minister Ava S. Harvey officiating. Interment will be in Gregory Cemetery, Magee.
