GARRET BOGART
Was born in Bergin county, New Jersey, December 14, 1808. In 1814 Garret Bogart's parents took him to live in Hamilton County, Ohio, where he resided until 1833, when he proceeded to La Porte County, Michigan, and there dwelt one year. Removing to Hancock, County, Illinois, he there remained during the month of December, 1834, and in February, 1835, he transferred his abode to the Iowa side of the Mississippi, residing on a claim until 1852. In that year he crossed the Plain to Oregon with one hundred head of cattle, three wagons and one carriage. On the journey his cattle all died, and through other catastrophes, when he arrived in the State, he had but two wagons. After remaining during that winter in Marion County, in the spring of 1853, he came to Lane County and settled on the claim adjoining that on which he now lives. In 1832 he married Miss Elizabeth Embrey, and they have seven surviving children. ~~~END~~~
Note: Garret Bogart was married to Elizabeth C. Embrey 15 Jan 1832 in Hamilton County, Ohio. They had nine children, all of whom came to Oregon from Iowa or were born in Oregon.
Served in the Second Regiment Oregon Mounted Volunteers during the Rogue River Indian War from October 23, 1855-February 6, 1856. He was in Company A, headed by Captain Joseph Bailey.
Note: The Bogarts had nine children, one of whom died as an infant.
