Otis Gil, age 86, of Kyle, passed away on February 12, 2011 at his home.

He was born on June 24, 1924 in Waelder, Texas to Jose and Teresa (Rodriguez) Gil.

He served in the United States Army during World War II, eventually retiring with the rank of Sergeant First Class from the Army National Guard in 1984.

He worked as a master bricklayer for Gil Brothers Construction and other building contractors. He also worked as a masonry instructor with the San Marcos Job Corps and was a certified Vocational Education Instructor.

Otis was a member of Emmanuel Assembly of God, was on the Advisory Board of the East Austin Neighborhood Association, and a scout master at the former Pan American Recreation Center.

Otis was married to Olivia Rios Gil, who preceded him in death in August of 1994. Their union was blessed with nine children, who will all cherish his memory.

He is also preceded in death by his siblings, Ruth, Celia, Paul, Narcisco, and Simon Gil.

He is survived by his children, Arturo Rios Gil (Oct.2, 1943 Bastrop Co.,Tx.) (Dolores), Alicia Gil (Sept. 1, 1946 Travis Co,,Tx) (Ruben), Otis R. Gil, Jr. (Apr.,24, 1948 Travis Co,Tx) (Irene), Amelia Gil (Nov.19, 1949 Travis Co,Tx.) (Arnulfo), Daniel Gil (Dec.30, 1951 Travis Co,Tx), David Gil (Feb.2, 1953 Travis,Tx) (Vera), Richard Gil (Aug.18, 1954 Travis Co,Tx) (Diane), Sylvia Gil (Dec. 21 1955 Travis Co,Tx) (Juan), and Cynthia Gil (July 11, 1958 Travis Co,Tx) (Lawrence). He is also survived by his brother, Pete Gil; sister, Julia Villarreal; brother-in-law, Robert Rios; twenty-two grandchildren; forty-three great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

You are invited to greet the family at a visitation to be held on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville, with a wake service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 16, 2011 in the Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home.

Interment with military honors will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville.

Honoring him as pallbearers will be Scot Gil, Michael Moreno, Stephen Medel, Lawrence Gonzales, David Gil, Jr., Joseph Gil, Ricardo Gil, and Christopher Gil. Honorary pallbearers will be Andrew Gonzales, Adrian Gonzales, Robert Moreno, and Anthony Gil.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all the staff of Angel Heart Hospice for their loving care and support during this time.
