We have a letter that Ellen wrote around the time of Frederick's sickness. Bert was born less than a year after Frederick's death. Sadly a daughter was born 12/20/1873, died the next day 12/21 and Ellen's death was the following day -12/22. This left the young child Bert with his 31 year-old father, so Lorenzo and Bert returned to Lorenzo's parent's home on Conant St., Bridgewater.
