Funeral services for Norbert Milburn (Bert) Masters, 83, of Pollok will be held Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. in the Falvey Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jamie Lea and the Rev. Ken Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Pollok Cemetery.

Mr. Masters was born in East Texas May 10, 1923. The fourth of six children born to Frank Masters and Asia (Ellis) Masters, he grew up in Grapeland, Texas, where he played football, was active in F.F.A. and as a senior received the American Legion Award. He also met the girl who became the love of his life, Milly Cheatham.

After graduating in 1941, Mr. Masters moved to Houston, where he worked until the onset of World War II. He enlisted in the Navy and proudly served in the Pacific Campaign. Upon his return from the war, he married Milly September 6, 1945.Mr. Masters attended the University of Houston on the GI Bill and graduated in 1951 with a BBA in Business. He entered the lumber industry in sales, which led him to his eventual career as a homebuilder. As the founder of Masterbuilt Homes in 1955, he built homes and developed properties in Galveston County. Mr. Masters served several terms as President of the Galveston County Home Builders Association. As a member of the Masonic Lodge, Mr. Masters achieved the honor of Shriner, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

After retirement he moved to Pollok, Texas, where he became active in the Santa Getrudis Breeders Association. Before the decline of his health, he was also an active member of Falvey Memorial United Methodist Church in Wells, Texas. His mother and father, brothers Troy and Joe, sister Ruth, and his eldest son, David Charles Masters predecease Mr. Masters.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Milly Masters; son, Mark Masters and his wife, Anita; daughter-in-law, Donna Masters; grandchildren, who also remain to remember him fondly, Jeremy and wife Erika, Jennifer, Rebekah and Ryan Masters; his only great-grandchild, Brandon Lee Wager, with whom he shared a special bond; brothers, Dawson and Reginald Masters; a special sister-in-law, Dorothy Masters; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Mr. Masters will be remembered for his hard work, his love for his family, and his keen wit.

The family extends special thanks to his physician, Dr. Tom Willis, Hospice in the Pines, 116 S. Raguet St., Lufkin, Texas 75904 and Love, Inc. Home Health, P.O. Box 153311, Lufkin, Texas 75915 for their attentive care and support.

Pallbearers will be Masons from the Lufkin Masonic Lodge #669, A.F. and A.M.Memorial contributions may be made to the Falvey Memorial United Methodist Church, P.O.
