Frances Hudgins Cofer, 100, a longtime resident of Norfolk, died peacefully on Monday, April 5, 1999, in a local convalescent center.
She was born in Mathews County, Va., and was the daughter of the late Georgia Brooks and Letcher M. Hudgins. She was the widow of Paul D. Cofer. Mrs. Cofer was a devoted member of Ghent United Methodist Church for more than 50 years and a former 25-year member of Woman's Club of Norfolk. She contributed her time and talents to her church, her community and her family.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Alene N. Cofer of Norfolk; two grandsons, J. William Cofer and his wife, Susan, of Virginia Beach and William Young and his wife, Lynn, of Willis Wharf, Va.; two great-grandsons, Jimmy Young and Landon Cofer; and a niece, Elizabeth Williams Murphy. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Doris Cofer Young; and a son, William R. Cofer.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Forest Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. H. Leroy Seibert. Memorials may be made to the Ghent United Methodist Church. Cox Funeral Home is in charge.
