Bruce R. Longstreth was born on 30 May 1896 in Millersburg, Iowa County, Iowa, son of Sutton Longstreth and Ella Josephine Waggner.

Bruce registered for the Draft during World War II in 1916. Private Bruce Longstreth served with the Second Infantry, Machine Gun Company, Missouri National Guary (organized Nevada, Vernon County, Missouri) on the Mexican Border in 1916.

At age 20, Bruce married Florence DeGood, daughter of Banning Norton DeGood and Elizabeth Hale Walker, on Wed. 28 Feb 1917.

Due to a need for men to serve during World War I, the United States instituted a draft. The first registration was for men between the ages of 21 and 31. As a result, this first registration included men born between June 5, 1886 and June 5, 1896. Bruce R. Longstreth was required to register for the draft on 5 Jun 1917 at Horton, Vernon County, Missouri. He was 21 years old and was born in Millersburg, Iowa on 30 May 1896. Bruce was the surviving husband listed in the obituary of Florence Longstreth on 29 Nov 1920 in the The Nevada Daily Mail and The Evening Post of Nevada, Vernon County, Missouri.

Longstreth died from a spinal cord injury from fracture of third and fourth cervical vertebrae caused by being hit by a locomotive in the railroad yards on Fri. 2 Mar 1928 in Nevada, Vernon County, Missouri, at age 31 years and 9 months leaving Elsie as a widow. Bruce lived for three days after the accident on 29 Feb 1928. He was buried on Sun. 4 Mar 1928 Newton Burial Park, Nevada, Vernon County, Missouri.
