PROMINENT LOCAL
CIVIC LEADER DIES

A well-known Carlsbad civic leader, Mrs. Bettie Crockett Boyce, died early this morning at the home of her son, Bill Boyce, 605 West Greene.

Mrs. Boyce was 73 years old and had been in failing health for several months.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the Riverside Chapel with the Rev. Clifford B. Thomas, pastor of the First Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be at Carlsbad Cemetery.

Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Vick Blackburn; and three sons, Bill, A.G. and John, all of Carlsbad.

Born Oct. 14, 1877, in Travis County, Tex., Mrs. Boyce is the widow of the late A.G. Boyce. She was a member of the Christian Church and was active in the Women's Club and the art classes conducted there.

The Boyce family moved to the Malaga area from Texas in 1927 and to Carlsbad in 1929. Mrs. Boyce at that time was active in Democratic Party circles and at one time was a Democratic Party delegate to a state convention.

She was a descendant of the famous Davy Crockett.

Pallbearers for the funeral will be T.B. Phillips, Ben Driver, W.C. Moody, Bob James, Henry Barber and Lyle Blohm.
