Alex Wayne Bennett, 61, of Grenada, went home to Jesus on Monday, Feb. 7, 2011.
Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, at National Funeral Home. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, at National Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Larry Edwards and Bro. Jim Nunnellee officiating. Burial followed Bethel Cemetery at Oxberry.
Alex was born on Dec. 10, 1949, in Montgomery County to Elmer Marion Bennett and Frances Wardean Bennett.
He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church at Oxberry. During his lifetime, Alex farmed for Kilgore and Hayward Farms and logged for Terry Logging. But most of all, he was recognized for his outstanding auto body repair. During his career, Alex worked with Ray Carroll, Dynamite Kirk, Cliff Colbert, Buddy Herring, Bobby and Andy Bell, and Frank Weed.
Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Frances Bennett; and by two brothers, Richard Bennett and Elmer Bennett.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Paulette Woods Bennett; one daughter, Bridget Payne and her husband, David; one son, Richie and his wife, Lisa; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; one sister, Patsy Perry; two brothers, Jimmie Bennett and Larry Bennett; and a host of nieces and nephews.
National Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
