The Fulton Democrat – July 9, 1891
Mrs. Nancy Ellis, aged about 84 years, died July 4, 1891, at the home of L. A. Hutchinson in Paris, Edgar County, after a long illness. She was the mother of Mrs. Wm. M. Standard of this city, and grandmother to citizens Geo. W and P. J. She was one of our earliest Fulton county pioneers and was the progenitor of a large and honored family. The burial was at the Lutheran graveyard in Joshua township on July 7th. The pall bearers were her four sons and G. W. and P. J. Standard.
Mrs. Ellis' maiden name was Nancy Jennings. She was born in Tennessee in 1807 and in 1827 was married to Isaac Ellis. In 1828 he came a-foot to Lewistown and bought the farm now occupied by Wm. A. Riley. He returned a-foot to Tennessee, and in 1830 moved his wife and goods to Lewistown in a two-wheeled cart. But they at once sold the Riley farm and bought a farm four miles west of Canton, and there she resided until her death. She was the mother of 11 children—four boys and seven girls. One of the girls died about 20 years ago. The other ten children were all at the funeral. There are 20 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren living. Grandfather Isaac Ellis died Dec. 21, 1877. The burial was at the Lutheran church, four miles west of Canton, July 7th. Amidst a great rain storm, there were some 75 carriages in line.
