David C. Randolph, 83, Altoona, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday surrounded by his loving family at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus, after a brief illness.

He was born in Julian and raised in Pine Grove Mills, son of the late Faye L. "Curly" and Helen (Chandler) Randolph. He married E. Frances Corl on Sept. 23, 1950, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Juniata. She preceded him in death on July 28, 2004, after 54 years of marriage.

Surviving are five children: David E. of Roaring Spring, Stephen C. of Huntingdon and Susan D. Mallery, Carol A. Marshall (Earl M.) and Mary Lou Suter (Kenneth E.), all of Altoona; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren (with two more on the way), of whom he was the proud "Pap Pap"; two brothers: Fred (Connie) and Jon (Bonnie), both of State College; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

David was a 1945 graduate of State College High School. He served in the U.S. Army, receiving various medals and citations including the Army of Occupation Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. He had worked with the Pennsylvania Railroad and then was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier, retiring after many years of service.

He was a lifetime member of the Pine Grove Mills VFW Post. He had at one time umpired for the PIAA, had sung in the Pine Grove Mills Men's Choir and had volunteered at Altoona Hospital. He was a member of the Fifty-eighth Street United Methodist Church, where he at one time had sung in the choir.

David enjoyed reading, especially his Bible and daily devotionals. He had a love of all sports, particularly the Pittsburgh teams and Penn State football, and he was an avid fan of our local Altoona Curve baseball team. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

He leaves a legacy of love, courage, strength and humor and of having a close relationship with his Savior. He will be fondly remembered by those who loved and knew him and will be deeply missed.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata (www.maukandyates.com), where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, Pastor Lou Hileman officiating. A graveside service with military honors will be at Pine Hall Cemetery in State College.
