Enlisted October 22, 1861 at Camp Cheatham, Tennessee for 1 year. Promoted Cpl. in 1862. Captured at Fort Donelson, Tennessee in February, 862. Exchanged at Vicksburg, Mississippi September 4, 1862. Promoted to Sgt. January 21, 1863. He served with his brother Adam Cagle who died at Jackson, Louisiana on April 7, 1863 and is buried in the Confederate Cemetery there as an Unknown. Another Brother, Charles served in Co. H. 11th Tennessee infantry.
