From a letter from Dorothy Nell Mills Ireland dated April 11, 1994 (step granddaughter of Bessie Agnes Ausley Carroll): "I faintly remember Sarah Jane. She had a cancer on her neck. I was probably 6-9 years old when we went to their house and Grandma and Grandpa (I. Stanley and Agnes Carroll) were gone (to the funeral). In the back yard a fire was smoldering with all Sarah's bed, clothing and anything else that was in her room. Agnes burned everything because she didn't know if the cancer was contagious at that time."
NOTE: The Carroll family lived in Freestone County, Texas at the time
