Obituary of Elizabeth (Betsy) Adams Heald Mrs. Betsey Adams Heald died Wednesday, September 14, 1881 at 11:50 P.M. aged 75 years, 10 months, 3 days, at Minneapolis, Kansas. Born in Marlborough, Windham County, Vermont, Monday, November 11, 1805.At 9 years of age moved with her father's family (Joel Adams) to Jefferson County, New York and was married to David Heald at Belleville, New York in 1825. Moved to the then considered far west; Ohio-Erie County,in 1832, again to Delaware county, Iowa in 1856 and again west to Kansas in 1872. Her husband died near Topeka in Wabaunsee County in 1872.Surviving him 9 years, she was the mother of 7 children, all boys, five of whom survive, to mourn her departure. George, the eldest, now a resident of Ohio, Alonzo K., Iowa, Clark, Frank A. and Amos S., residents of Ottawa County, Kansas. In the demise of our dear mother, we feel we have lost one of the very best of earthly friends - a friend - yea more than a friend, a mother who has ever exercised from our earliest recollections the most watchful and undeviating love and care over her children from infancy to manhood.A mother whose kind, fond, ministrations and counsel will be as lasting in our memories as life itself.Reared by a Presbyterian mother who dedicated herself to God by the rite of infant baptism. She was a firm and faithful believer in a God and Christ - a God and Christ whose love and mercy are as unlimited as eternal space. A love and mercy whose depth, height and breadth are bounded by the confines of no petty creed. One of her favorite passages of scriptures was: John 3:16, God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him, should not perish but have everlasting life.
