James Polk "Jim" was the son of Charles Harvey and Lucinda O. "Curtis" Lankford. He married Frances Pearl Hamby in 1878 in Mississippi. One wonders how he felt in 1914, as he loaded his team of mules, Rat and Blanche, on a train that would take his family from Mississippi to Texas to start a new home. His wife, Frances, who suffered from a heart condition, lived only until Feb 26, 1914 and Jim died on April 15, 1917. They were the parents of 10 children who lived to adulthood. They had two children who died as infants. One named Daisy died when five years old and a boy named Henry died when six months old.
