Oldest Citizen, Mrs. Buchanan, dies at 97. A life which started almost a century ago ended Sunday with the death of Mrs. Frances M. Warren the oldest citizen of Orange County, Indiana. Mrs. Buchanan died Sunday evening at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Cleve Boyer, in the Syria vicinity at the age of 97 years, seven months, and one day. Final rites were conducted Wednesday afternoon at Pleasant Grove. Services were conducted by Elder William C. Hancock. A daughter of william and Amariah (Rigney) Warren, she was born Jan. 02, 1855, near Syria, Indiana. After living in Terre Haute, Indiana a few years when young, she returned to Orange County where the rest of her life was spent. Her marriage to Jasper Newton Buchanan in 1873 ended with his death in 1909. Wars have punctuated the life of this woman whose father was a Mexican War Soldier. A son served in the Spanish-American War, another in World War I. Four grandsons fought overseas during World War II and a grandson and great-grandson are now in Korea. Mrs. Buchanan leaves almost 100 descendants. With the six children surviving, Elbert Buchanan and Mrs. Harry Monyhan, Paoli, Indiana; Pearl, Eli and Arrie Buchanan and Mrs. Boyer of the Syria vicinity are 27 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren. Three children preceded her in death.
