Obituary Transcribed from Original Obituary from Leon Reporter, Leon, Iowa, May 15, 1924:

Sadie E. Bedell, daughter of David and Martha Bedell, was born in Wapello county, near Ottumwa, December 9, 1863, and passed away at her home near Lamoni, Iowa, May 7, 1924, being 60 years 5 months and 28 days of age at the time of her death.

She spent the early years of her life with her parents in Wapello county and went with them to Decatur county in 1880. She was united in marriage to Louis N. Stephens February 15, 1893, and lived the remainder of her life in Decatur county. To their union was born two children, a daughter, Mabel Stephens, born January 7, 1896, who passed away in infancy, and a son, Loren W. Stephens, who lives near Lamoni. She was the sixth child of a family of eight, there being four boys and four girls. They are as follows: John Bedell, deceased; Mrs. Z.T. Earl of San Pedro, Cal.; Caleb Bedell, deceased; Susan Bedell of Lamoni; Henry Bedell, deceased' Jesse B. Bedell of Mercer, Mo.; Belle Z. Whetstone, deceased.

Mrs. Stephens claimed Jesus as her Saviour and united with the M.E. church about the year 1912 and had been a faithful member.

Her beautiful Christian life was a pattern for others. She was a kind neighbor and always found where there was sickness, sorrow or trouble. She will be missed by all who knew her, but will never be forgotten.

Her illness was of a long duration, having taken sick in December 1922. She was a patient sufferer, always trying to be cheerful and keep the burden of her pain from those about her. She had some hope of getting better, when a sudden cold set in and the Master called her home to rest in peace. She leaves to mourn for her a loving husband and a son and his wife, Mr. and Loren Stephens. One brother, Jesse Bedell, and two sisters, Mrs. Z.T. Earl of San Pedro, Cal., and Susan Bedell of Lamoni, who cared for her through her illness, also survive. Her parents have passed to the great beyond. Besides these, she leaves many other relatives and friends to mourn her departure. The funeral was held at the Lamoni M.E. church Friday afternoon, May 9, 1924. Interment was made in the Elk cemetery. – Contributed.
