Loren Stephens
Loren Walden Stephens was born on April 28, 1900, on the family farm north of Lamoni, Iowa in the Elk Chapel vicinity, and died at the Decatur County Hospital on December 28, 1972.

In 1920 he moved with his parents to a farm near Lamoni. He attended rural schools and high school in Fort Madison, Iowa.

Loren was a farmer until 1935 and has been a resident of Lamoni since that time. He worked for the Lamoni Creamery for several years and was later self-employed. In his early years, he became a member of the Methodist Church at Elk Chapel.

Loren was married to Velva Allen on August 20, 1922, at Mt. Ayr, Iowa. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year at the Methodist church. Two daughters were born to them, Frances Jean Kocina and Alice Lee Cesler.

Loren was preceded in death by his mother, Sadie Bedell Stephens in 1924 and his father, Louis H. Stephens in 1928 and an infant sister, Mabel in 1896, and a son-in-law, Glen Anderson in 1969.

He is survived by his wife, Velva, daughters Frances Kocina and husband, Frank of Parma Heights, Ohio, and Alice Cesler and husband Karl and grandchildren, Karla, Jill, Jeff and Kent Cesler, all of Davenport, and friends.

Services were held December 30 from the United Methodist Church in Lamoni, with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery. Elder F. L. Sawtelle and Rev. Gary Bird officiated.
