The next to the youngest child of a large family, Ellen, who was always known as Nell, was born in a two room log house in now defunct Day County, Oklahoma and lived with her family on a farm in the Stone community (now extinct) near the Canadian River. The nearest town at the time was the railroad town of Woodward, Woodward, Oklahoma. Older brother Robert B. Allen stated that the family went to Woodward twice a year to sell cattle and buy supplies.
Nell moved to Orient, Tom Green, Texas, with parents and siblings about 1904 after the family made a very brief move to California. Soon after 1920 she married a young farmer and WW 1 veteran by the name of Ira Lloyd. Nell and Ira raised two children on their farm in Coke County, Texas.
After Ira's death in 1947, Nell was remarried to Thomas Parrish.
