Catherine Kugle, born in 1788 in Frederick County, Maryland, was the first child of Catharina (née Sheffer) and Johannes Kugel.
Catherine Kugle and Jacob Hutzell were married on 9 January 1808 in Frederick County. The couple are known to have had 10 children. Several of these children were baptized at the Lutheran church in Middletown, Frederick County, including: Jacob (born 29 November 1813); Daniel (born 16 November 1815); Anna Maria (born 21 April 1821); and Maria Anna (born 18 April 1826). Catherine passed away in 1831 at the age of 42.
