Jacob Hutzel was a son of Elizabeth Ann (née Davis) and Johann "Peter" Hutzel, born in 1786 in Middletown, Frederick County, Maryland.

Jacob Hutzell and Catherine Koogle were married on 9 January 1808 in Frederick County, and later moved to Washington County, Maryland. The couple are known to have had 10 children. Catherine died in 1831 at the age of 42.

Jacob "Huchel" and Lydia Ann House were married on 29 September 1831 in Hagerstown, Washington County. The couple are thought to have had four children. She died in 1845 at the age of 38. Her headstone is inscribed: "Memory of / DELILAH HUTZELL / 2nd Consort of Jacob / Hutzell."

Jacob Hutzell and Margaret "Unklesbee" were married on 8 August 1849 in Washington County. Margaret (née Poffenberger) was the widow of Philip "Unckelsbee" (married on 12 January 1816 in Washington County). Margaret's nephew, Alfred Poffenberger, would marry Jacob Hutzel's daughter, Harriet, in 1858.

Jacob Hutzel died on 17 January 1857, and was survived by Margaret, who died in 1874 at the age of 80.
