Died. CANEY—In the town of Richfield, Feb. 9, 1898, George Caney.

The deceased was born in Bedford [Westchester Co.], May 6, 1834, and was at the time of his death in the 64th year of his age. There were in his parents' family fourteen children, ten boys and four girls, six of whom are living: Henry, James and Robert, and Mrs. Mary Boden, Mrs. Sophy Burtis and Mrs. Carrie Boden.

In March, 1857, Mr. Caney was married to Miss Ellen Young. Of that union five children were born, all of whom, with their mother, survive the father—Irving E. of Cooperstown, George D. of Richfield Springs, Mrs. Dora A. Weatherbee of Richfield Springs, Arthur D. and Ina E. of the family home.

In the year 1869 the deceased purchased the farm in Richfield, which was for nearly a third of a century the family residence. A man of great industry and energy of character his services were eagerly sought after, and his integrity and faithfulness were ample assurance that he would promote the interests of those who called him to labor. A good father and lover of the home and its dear ones[,] he improved all the opportunities to make that home one of plenty and rest. An upright citizen and an obliging neighbor, he found a place of friendship and honor in the hearts of the community, where he accomplished his day. His memory is a pleasant one with the circle of friends, with whom, in the work of life, he was most intimately associated. The funeral services were held on Sunday, Feb. 12th, Rev. S. [Samuel] R. Ward [Universalist] officiating.
