Anna Elizabeth Kuether, nee Volberg, born 25 May 1880 in the Huguenot colony of Friedrichsdorf, Germany. When Mrs. Kuether was a year and a half old, her parents, (F. L. Volberg and Gertrude Volberg nee Stelz) settled in Brooklyn, N. Y., but when the child contracted pneumonia three times and was critically ill, her parents, on her account, settled in Atlanta, Ga., where she grew to womanhood.
Confirmed at St. John's Lutheran church, Atlanta, ca. 1896. Pastor suddenly died in 1900. Rev. F. C. Kuether, then a student of theology in St. Louis, was sent to supply the vacancy. Married 19 August 1902 by Rev. Wm. Vollbrecht.
Soon after their marriage, Rev. and Mrs. Kuether went to Clintonville, Wisconsin, where Mr. Kuether as a missionary pastor built up a church and also one at Shawano. Then to Unity church in Antigo from 1904 to 1908. In 1908 began service at the Ripon church.
Four children: Anna Elizabeth, at Shawano in 1903, who died in infancy. Fritz Carl, born in 1911, Laura Johanna, 1913, and Carl Albert, born in 1915. Adopted son, Hans Herman, whom she took when four weeks old and sick nigh unto death.
Contracted influenza from husband and on Wednesday, October 10, was taken to St. Agnes hospital at Fond du Lac where she died on Thursday, October 11, 1918.
The body lay in state in Scott Street Ev. Lutheran church from noon until three o'clock on Monday. Private funeral conducted by Rev. H. Neifer of Milwaukee, president of this district. Buried in Hillside.
Besides husband and children, survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Volberg of Blackshear, Ga., two sisters, Mrs. Cecilia Voigt and Mrs. Johanna Knox both of Blackshear, and two brothers, F. L. Volberg, Jr., a business man of Atlanta, and Geo. Volberg, also of Atlanta. Parents came for funeral.
