Friedrich "Fred" Hill, Jr. was born in Brunnental, Seelman District, Samara Province, Russia in 1908. He was 5 months old when he immigrated to the United States with his parents and older sister Maria (age 3). Fred lived in Marion, Kansas, and later moved to Ault, Colorado with his family in 1925.
At the age of 19 Fred was hospitalized at the Greeley Hospital where he later died. His mother Mary never left his bedside and following his death Fred's body was returned home to lay in mourning. It was winter and the room was kept very cold by leaving the windows open. He was later buried at the Lakeview Cemetery in Windsor, Colorado.
