William Rufus Pickell, 70, well known retired farmer of the Kirksey section of the county, passed away suddenly today at his home. He had been in declining health for some time, but his death came as a shock. He was a son of the late E. J. Pickell of Williamston and Mrs. Betty Ouzts Pickell of Edgefield county. Mr. Pickell has spent his entire life in the community where he died and had engaged in farming until his health failed. He had been a member of the Mountain Creek Baptist church for many years.

Survivors include his widow, the former Miss Annie Faulkner of Greenwood county; three daughters, Mrs. J. B. Bock of Durham NC, Mrs. W. R. Denton of Camden, and Mrs. William M. Barnes of Columbia; four sons, William and Edward Pickell, both of Greenwood, Thomas Pickell of Columbia and Frank Pickell of Kirksey; two sisters, Mrs. Daisy Penn of Greenwood and Mrs. Ollie Timmerman of Edgefield; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
