George C. Adams, 81, of Marshfield, Wisconsin went to his heavenly home, with his family by his side, on May 19, 2007, after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease and dementia, at the Marshfield Nursing and Rehab Care Ctr.
Private family funeral services were held May 22, 2007 at 11am at the Hansen Funeral Home in Marshfield. Rev. Tricia Turner officiated.
Mr. Adams was born March 10, 1926, in Milwaukee, as son of Nickolas and Stella(Lempicki)Adams. He received his education in Milwaukee schools. George joined the US Navy in 1944, serving aboard the USS Merriweather as a landing craft operator. Mr. Adams earned the Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic/Pacific Area Campaign Medal and Philippine Liberation Ribbon(1 star). He was discharged from Great Lakes in 1946. Upon his return to Milwaukee, George worked for the Durman Tobacco Co.
On Jan. 29, 1949, George Adams was married to the former Marian Wenzel. The couple moved to Marshfield, where Mr. Adams was employed with Weinbrenner Shoe Co. George retired in 1992 after 43 years. He also worked for Figi's for 25 years.
When George was well, he enjoyed fishing, yard work, ushering at church and spending time with family and friends. He was member of Faith Lutheran Church. After his illness, the visits from his grandchildren to the nursing home always left a big smile on his face.
Mr. Adams was survived by his wife of 58 years, Marian, his children Gerald Adams, Lynn(Lee)Telin, Kay (Gary) Varsho, Lindsey, Sandra (Jeff)Irish and Michael (Jill)Adams. George is further survived by 14 grandchildren, Lindsay Meissner, Kim and Amanda Mancl, Aaron, Megan, Courtney and Colin Telin, Andie, Taylor and Daulton Varsho, Cole and Morgan Irish, Madeline and Alec Adams, one great-grandson, Ethan Meissner; two brothers, James Adams and Guste(Dolores)Adams, Milwaukee; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceding Mr. Adams in death were his parents; a daughter, Patricia, in 1995; two brothers, Robert and Donald; and three sisters, Sophie Kempka, Mary Hoven, and Daisy Hafmeister.
