The son of William and Elizabeth (Stanley) Pitkin, he was Captain of the 3rd Co. of militia on the east side in 1738 and Colonel of the first regiment in 1751, a representative to the General Assembly for many years, Justice of the Peace in 1726. He was deacon of the Third Church of Harford until his death.

He was married three times:
(1) Mary Lord on Feb. 20, 1724 in Hartford. She was the mother of his eight children: Mary Lord Pitkin b. Dec. 9, 1727, Joseph Pitkin b. 1729, Abigail Pitkin b. 1730, Elisha Pitkin b. March 9, 1733, Stephen Pitkin b. 1734, Jerusha Pitkin b. Jan. 21, 1736, Richard Pitkin b. March 15, 1739, Elizabeth Pitkin b. Sept. 1, 1740.

(3) Eunice Hall in 1751 in Wallingford, CT.
