Served in the 303rd Bombardment Group (H), 360th Bomber Squadron, 8th Air Force, U.S. Army Air Corps, during World War II. He was a ball-turret gunner on a B-17 bomber.

The 303rd was on a bombing mission of the main rail yard at Leipzig, Germany on April 6, 1945. Shortly before reaching the target Sgt. Beebe's aircraft ("Green Hill Belle", Tail Number 43-38958) had a mid-air collision with another bomber. Both planes exploded and there were no survivors.
