His obituary in the Rayne Acadian-Tribune Thursday, November 10, 1994 reads:
Obey Melancon
CROWLEY - Funeral services were held at 12 noon Wednesday, Nov. 9, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for Obey Melancon, 96, who died at 11:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7, 1994, at Crowley Guest Home.
Interment was in the Woodlawn Cemetery. Fr. Joe Steffes officiated and conducted the services.
He is survived by one son, Leory Melancon of Eunice; two daughters, Lilly Mae Johnson of Rayne and Beulah Lapearouse of Iowa; one brother, Beo Melancon of Crowley; 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren.
Mr. Melancon was a farmer until he opened a grocery store in the Crowley area.
Duhon Funeral Home of Crowley was in charge of arrangements.
