Lansemere Waldon Vanderhoef (Lance) passed away Apr 25, 2009 at the Sheridan VA Hospital following a brief illness. Lance was born Mar 9, 1920, 25 miles NE of Glendive, MT to Walter Cornelius and Beatrice Pearl Harris-Vanderhoef. He was the seventh of nine sons. He was preceded in death by brothers Vernon Robert, Farrell Delose, Alric Eugene and Ernest Algenon Vanderhoef. He survived by brothers Esmond Harris, Berlyle Bernice, Aloyious Merlin and Doran Wayne Vanderhoef.

Lance attended school in Glendive, MT. At age 16, he began working for the Sako Land Co, building spillways for the Ft Peck Dam. His work and Taxi Dancing, while at Ft Peck were photographed by Margaret Bourke-White. The pictures and article appeared in the first edition of Life Magazine on Nov 23, 1936. In 1938, he joined Peter Kiewit and Sons and moved to Buffalo, WY to construct Highway 16 over the Big Horn Mountains.

While in Buffalo, he met Juanita Christina Gray. They were married on June 9, 1940 in Hardin, MT. In early 1941, the newlyweds moved to Vancouver, WA to work for Kaiser Vancouver Shipyard on the Columbia River. With WWII at hand, Lance operated a crane at the Kaiser Shipyard building warships. At the rate of one ship per week, Kaiser produced 140 ships for the US Navy including Liberty Ships, Tank Landing Crafts, AP-5 Troop Transports and Aircraft Carrier Escorts. When Pearl Harbor was attacked, Lance enlisted in the US Army and Juanita returned to Buffalo, WY. He joined Juanita after his honorable discharge in 1946. Lance and Juanita had three children; Ronald Deane Vanderhoef born Aug 31, 1942 in Vancouver, WA, Diana Lee Vanderhoef born Dec 28, 1945 and Lane Allen Vanderhoef born Nov 11, 1946-both born in Buffalo.

Lance owned and operated Vanderhoef Appliance & TV in Buffalo before organizing R & L Service in 1962. From inception, R & L Service has been a regional dealer for what is now Titan Trailer MFG. He relocated R & L Service to Dayton, WY in 1990. Lance was recognized as Titan's Outstanding Dealer in the US in 2007.

Lance was preceded in death by Juanita, his wife of 68 years on Jan 18, 2008. In addition to four brothers, Lance is survived by: son, Ronald Vanderhoef and his wife Kathy Jane of Dayton and grandsons, Tyler Harrison Vanderhoef and his wife Carla of Casper, WY and Christian John Vanderhoef and his wife, Amy of Sheridan and g-granddaughter Anna Marie and g-grandson Aiden Baker Vanderhoef both of Sheridan; daughter Diana Lee Vanderhoef of Mukilteo, WA; and son Lane Allen Vanderhoef of Sheridan and grandson Michael David Vanderhoef and granddaughter Alison Catherine Vanderhoef, both of Sheridan, granddaughter Donna Gonzales and g-granddaughter Brittany Clemons of MO.

Lance was a lifelong member of the American Legion, Elks Club, American Quarter Horse Assoc and NRA. A private memorial service will be held at the Horseshoe Ranch in Dayton, WY to celebrate Lance's life and to honor the guidance, influence and example he provided to his family."
