[Obit] ANOTHER PIONEER GONE- Elder David Barklow, died at the residence of Peter Wise in Myrtle Point, aged 67 years, 8 months and 27 days. "Uncle David" as he was familiarly known, had gone to Myrtle Point to consult the doctor in regards to his health when he was taken sick and removed from the office of Dr. Flentge to the residence of Peter Wise, where after an illness of 26 days succumbed to the inevitable, the disease being typhoid pneumonia.
Mr. Barklow was born in Union County,PA, on Nov.28,1821. He emigrated to Illinois in 1848 with his parents where he resided until 1865. While in Illinois he was elected to the ministry in the German Baptist Church which organization he had attached himself to while in Pennsylvania.
In 1863, he was married to Miss Elizabeth Miller in Bedford County,PA, and immediately thereafter moved to Keokuk County,Iowa, where he lived until 1867. From there he moved to Boone County in the same state, residing there four years. He established a church here and was ordained as elder of the district. In 1872, in company with twenty others, started for California, arriving at Red Bluffs in that state. Here the company purchased teams and wagons and started over the mountainous country between there and the Coquille Valley. After five months of travel and surmounting obstacles which seemed impossible, they arrived at Myrtle Point in August of that same year. Since that time he has been a resident of Coos County and being among the first to settle here was well known.
