She was called Maxine but there is an altogether different and unusual spelling in her death certificate. It might have something to do with the Marais des Cygne river, along which her grandfather homesteaded.

Mildred Maxine, the two-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hix Mullies was gathered in the fold by the Good Shepherd Saturday afternoon, about 1:30 and the fond parents are left in sorrow because of the taking away of their dear one. Little Mildred Maxine had been sick for some time but it was not believed the end was near, and her death was a great shock to parents and their friends. Funeral services were held in the Baptist church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, conducted by Rev. Silvens after which all that was mortal of this little one, budded on earth to bloom in heaven, was conveyed to Woodfin cemetery where it was tenderly consigned to earth to await the meeting of parents, brother and sister, on the golden shore. The bereaved parents have the heartfelt sympathy of the people of this country in the loss of one so dear to them.
