She was the 13th of sixteen children: Rosa Lee (1868-1937), Snowden (1871-1879), twins Anna Rebecca (1874-1957) & Abner (1874-1927), Mary Virginia (1876-1937), Catherine (1877-1957), John Lewis (1879-1950), James Matison (1881-1939), Bessie (1883-1946), Nancy Walden (1885-1941), Robert Carroll (1887-1964) , Eva Willis (1889-1944) , GRACIE HILDA (1891-1969), Ethel (1893-1963), baby boy (1894-1894) and Lucy Henrietta (1895-1986).

Gracie married Addison Herman Oliver, Jr. in 1910 and together they had five children: James Herman (1913-1914), Claude Thomas (1914-1980), Gracie Hilda (1916-2010), Mildred Virginia (1919-2004) and Addison Herman III (1919-1988).
