He was born in Bulloch County and was a 1965 graduate of Bryan County High School and the owner of Larry Akins Insurance Co. He was a member of Professional Insurance Agents of Georgia, Independent Agents of Georgia, American Alliance of Independent Insurance Agents and Statesoro-Bulloch Chamber of Commerce. He attended First Baptist Church of Statesboro.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Kim Akins of Statesboro; three daughters, Donna Akins, Christina Akins and Amanda Akins, all of Statesboro; a son, Shane Akins of Statesboro; four brothers, Ronald Akins of Lee's Summit, Mo., Ray Akins of Statesboro, Ralph Akins of Blitchton and Bill Akins of Strawberry Plains, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
FUNERAL: 3 p.m. Sunday at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home, burial in Eastside Cemetery, Statesboro.
