Harry A. Schnavely Jr., 85, Juniata, died Thursday at The Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Harry A. Sr. and Clide (Keasey) Schnavely. He married Mary Kathryn Corl on Aug. 27, 1949, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Juniata.

Surviving are his wife of more than 61 years; four children: Deborah K. Stevens and husband, Gary M., of Laceyville, Kathryn A. Panek and husband, Michael B., of Martinsburg, William A. Schnavely of Claysburg and Sandra L. Sekerak and husband, Michael, of Corry; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, William M. Schnavely of New Florence.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty F. Schockey, in March 2010.

Harry served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII and participated in campaigns in the China-Burma-India Theater. He received the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with three bronze stars and the WWII Victory Medal. He earned an associate degree in engineering from Penn State University and was a graduate of Williamsport Technical Institute. He retired in 1969 as a senior tool designer at Bendix Corp., Montrose.

Harry enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata (www.maukandyates.com), where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, the Rev. Sharon Erb officiating. Interment with military honors will be at Pine Hall Cemetery, State College.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg.
