His name in original Russian records was Srul Shlema, but was changed to Solomon after immigrating. He was the son of Aron BASINOV (later "Adam BONOFF). Though born in ELizavetgrad, his family was originally from Berdichev.

He married (1st) Sheyna Reiza Sheindel "Jennie" TSIBULEVSKY (SOBOL) (1866-1905); married (2nd) Bessie SCHNOTSKI (1883-1951).

Solomon/Samuel and 2nd wife Bessie had a daughter Rissel (female) BONOFF, b. 1908, lived in CT, chemist 1932; Rissel m. Bernard TAUBER
