Conrad Wenzel was the son of Johann Georg "Georg" Wenzel and Margaretha Schnatz Wenzel of New Braunfels, Texas. He was born in the community of Oberbessenbach, Bavaria, Germany. Conrad arrived in Texas from Germany on the brig Johann Dethardt in November 1844 with his parents and siblings. He was present with his father for the founding of New Braunfels, Texas. He married Christina Reininger on May 17, 1871 in New Braunfels, Texas.
