Norman "Norm" Weldon Leus, resident of Floresville, Texas since 2003, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at 1:24 A.M., at Connally Memorial Medical Center in Floresville, Texas, at the age of 81 years, 5 months, 10 days.

Norman "Norm" Weldon Leus, resident of Floresville, Texas since 2003, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at 1:24 A.M., at Connally Memorial Medical Center in Floresville, Texas, at the age of 81 years, 5 months, 10 days.

Norm was born January 27, 1929, in Needville, Fort Bend County, Texas, the son of Emil Alfonso Leus and Ada Brauer Leus. He graduated from high school and at age 17, enlisted in the Air Force, where he retired after over twenty years of faithful service as a Master Sergeant. Norm spent the first three years of his Air Force career as an airplane mechanic, followed by flight school. By January 1954, Norm was a flight instructor in West Palm Beach, Florida for three years, before moving to California for eight years. He was awarded pins for 5,000 and 10,000 safe flying hours. After retirement from the Air Force, Norm worked for Boeing and Arco Aviation. Norm moved from Fredericksburg, Texas, to Floresville in 2003. Norm married LaJuana Warren Newnam on June 13, 2004, at First Baptist Church in Floresville. Norm was a member of the Floresville Lions Club, and served as second vice commander with the American Legion Post 38. He was also a member at First Baptist Church in Floresville, where he immensely enjoyed the Fishers of Men Sunday School Class.

Norm is survived by his beautiful wife of six years, LaJuana Newnam Leus of Floresville; LaJuana's three surviving children; his three daughters; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Norm was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Ada Leus; and his brothers, Hayden Leus and Earl Leus.

Visitation was held from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville, Texas. Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, July 11, 2010, at First Baptist Church in Floresville, Texas, officiated by Pastor Mike Clements. Interment, with full military honors, followed at 10:30 A.M. Monday, July 12, 2010, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Serving as pallbearers were Richard Ullmann, Paul Traeger, Al Kolodziej, Bill Newnam, Gary Richardson, and Joseph Canady. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Norm's Fishers of Men Sunday School Class.
