John E. Persons, a resident of Oak Valley Township for thirty-six years, died Wednesday after an illness of only three weeks. Mr. Persons was past 86 years of age and lived with his son, Edwin on the farm in this township. His wife preceded him in death a year ago in December. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the Union Corner Church, one mile south of here and burial was made in Oak Valley Cemetery. Rev. Youngblood of Bertha officiated at the service.
Mr. Persons was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on March 12, 1848, and married Jane Meredith on July 20 1872, at Attica, Wisconsin. They were the parents of six children, five of whom are living. They are Mrs. Mary Chase of Stensen, Saskatchewan, Canada; Myron; John; Mrs. Annie Martin and Edwin, all of this community; daughter Lillian died some years ago. There are 22 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.
Old friends who bore the remains of their neighbor to his grave were Ora Cook; Albert Stokes; Clyde Marsh Chris Branstner; August and Charley Crouse.
