GRANDMA DOUGLAS DIED SUNDAY AT AGE 97 YEARS
Funeral services to be held tomorrow in the Methodist Church
Within three years of the century mark, Mrs. Mary C. DOUGLAS, Savanna's oldest resident and know as "grandma Douglas" died Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at her apartment in Main Street aged 97 years. She had been critically ill for the past three weeks.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon. A prayer service will be conducted at 2:15 at the home of Mrs. DOUGLAS granddaughter, Mr. B. Shapland JOHNSON. Services will be held in the Methodist Church at 2:30. The pastor Rev. Royal J. Synwolt, will officiate.
The body may be viewed at the Johnson apartment in Main street.
Mary Catherine WOLFY DOUGLAS was born in Huntington county, Pennsylvania, Nov. 26, 1837, the daughter of Jacob and Matilda WOLFEY. She came here at the age of 14 years with her parents. The trip was made in covered wagon. The family settled in Jacobs town five miles east of here where the family homestead was established.
She was married to Lucas DOUGLAS in November, 1852. He preceded her in death 33 years ago.
Until a few weeks before her death Mrs. DOUGLAS was exceedingly alert and active and was most interested in life. She always read a great number of books and periodicals, without the aid of spectacles, and attended to a portion of her household duties.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Joe BOOTHBY, two sons, Frank DOGLAS and Riley DOUGLAS, 17 grandchildren, and 37 great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Jacob (Anna) STUDEBAKER of Stockton, and one brother, George WOLFEY of Mount Carroll. A son, George, and two daughters Mrs. Matt LAW and Mrs. Adelia BABER preceded her in death.
