Son of Benjamin and Ann (Cregg/Cragg) Crow. Sometime after leaving home he added the "e" to end of his surname. It is unknown as to why. It is also unknown for sure if his middle name was his given name or he took it later. Many of his line believe he added Finley later to have a middle name.

On November 23, 1814 He was united in marriage to Esther Alexander in Bellevue, Washington, Missouri. To this union there are 12 known children.

1802 his family moved to Territory which became Bellevue, ? Co., Missouri

1808-April 1809 to Kentucky for more education back to Missouri - converted to Presbyterian faith

1811-1813 graduated Transylvania University, Lexington, Fayette Co., KY

May 1814 ordained an Elder in Pisgah Church, KY

1814-1815 Princeton Theological Seminary,Borough of Princeton, New Jersey

1815 founded a Academy-school, Shelbyville, Shelby Co., KY and pastor of 2 rura l churches (Fox Run and Bull Skin) near Shelbyville, KY 1823 John Finley Crowe moved to Hanover, Jefferson Cyt, IN

1827 founded in log cabin, School in Hanover known as Hanover Academy 1829 & Hanover College 1832 - Vice President 1832-1857

1843 Pres. McMaster moved college to Madison, IN became Madison University. John Finley Crowe founded a new school in old buildings at Hanover - new charter 1844 -
