Clarence Estes Vanover, Jr., 61 yrs, passed away May 15, 2010 in Columbia, Tennessee. Clarence was born on January 11, 1949 in Clintwood, Virginia. He was the son of the late Clarence Estes Vanover Sr. and Nora Swindall Vanover Fleming. Clarence graduated from Clintwood High School in 1966. He attended and graduated from the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science in Louisville, Kentucky. As a licensed funeral director, Clarence worked for Robinson's Funeral Home in Easley, South Carolina, Mackey Funeral Home in Greenville, South Carolina, Johnson's Funeral Home in Kingsport, Tennessee and Clintwood-Colley Funeral Home in Clintwood, Virginia. Clarence was a talented artist, not only as a funeral director, but as a restorer of antiques later in his life. Clarence made his home in Easley, South Carolina for many years where he owned and operated an antique business.

Clarence was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Vanover, his parents, Clarence Estes Vanover, Sr. and Nora Swindall Vanover Fleming, a sister, Magdalene Hensley and a brother, James Vanover. He is survived by one son, John David (Janet) Hayes of Clintwood, grandchildren, Tristan and Chloe Hayes of Clintwood, by sisters, Ruby (Eugene) Beverly of Huddleston, Virginia, Arbutus (Elster) Mullins of St. Petersburg, Florida, Joyce Trula Potter of Westland Michigan, Jackie Dutka of Cape Coral, Florida, Janice Johnson of Columbis, Tennessee and one brother, Charles (Ruby) Vanover, Inman, South Carolina.

Any one that knew Clarence knew he was a free spirit. He is now free and will be missed dearly. Burial will take place Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at 1:00 PM at the M. T. Swindall Cemetery located in Osborne Gap.
