The family departed Bremen, Germany on 23 September 1844 on the ship Herschel. After a voyage of 2 1/2 months, they arrived in Galveston, Texas on 5 December 1844 with the Adelsverein, the German Emigration Company. They were one of the founding families of New Braunfels, Texas on 21 March 1845 - it was Good Friday, 2 days before Easter.
