Maria Pelzer was born on 8 January 1835 in Horressen, Montabauer, Nassau, daughter of Adam Pelzer and Anna Margaretha Marx Pelzer. (Birthplace now known as Horressen, Montabaur, Westerwaldkreis, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany).
After a voyage of 2 1/2 months, she arrived in Galveston, Texas with her parents and sisters, Elizabeth, Anna Marie, and Catherine Halina, on 5 December 1844 on the ship Herschel with the Adelsverein, the German Emigration Company.
She and her family were one of the founding families of New Braunfels, Texas on 21 March 1845 - it was Good Friday, 2 days before Easter.

She married Johann Peter "John" Fein on 10 July 1850 in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in New Braunfels, Texas. They became the parents of Anne Marie, Helena, Wilhelm, Adolph, Rudolph, and Carl Fein.

Maria Pelzer Fein died on 27 January 1861 in New Braunfels, Texas. She was only 26 years of age. She died 19 days after the death of her father, Adam Pelzer.

After the Civil War, Maria's widowed husband and their children returned to Germany.

1860 census of The Corporation Of New Braunfels, Comal, Texas, included these children of Johann and Maria:
Helene - 7 years, born in Texas
Wilhelm - 6 years, born in Texas
Rudolph - 1 year, born in Texas
Living in the same household was Anna Pelzer, age 16 and
Edward Schmidt, age 54, both born in Nassau, Germany.

In the book "New Braunfels: The First Founders", vol. II, by Everett A. Fey, page 134, Anne Marie (born abt. 1851) and Adolph (born abt. 1856) are listed as Maria and Johann's children. But they are not on the June 1860 census, indicating they probably died as children. Rudolph, age 1 year, died in late 1860, according to U.S. Federal Census Mortality records. In the "First Founders" book, Carl is listed as born in 1860. He is not on the June 1860 census, indicating he was born after June 1860 and before the January 1861 death of his mother.
