M.W. Allen was appointed to survey the Fannin District out of which Collin county was formed. He was a Colonel in the Confederate Army and was stationed at Denton to guard against Indian raids from the north. Later he served in the Texas Legislature, author of the Land Bill, and instrumental in getting eastern capitalists interested in building the first railroad in Texas between Houston and Harrisburg

Confederate Veteran with the state of TX and Pioneer of Collin Co. TX Unit lost to time but name appears on the 1925 UDC List as Veteran and "Those Southern Belles" are never wrong.
