Deer Creek, April 13--The death of Nels Clemmer occurred Monday in the home of his sister, Mrs. J. M. Butler at Sacramento, Cal., where he had gone only 2 weeks ago, in hopes that change of climate might help him. A few years ago he was stricken with Apoplexy. He recovered so that he was about again and able to work some but the past year he has failed slowly. About a month ago he was taken violently ill while sitting in the Stewart grocery. He was hurried home and a physician called, but very little could be done. His sister and her husband arrived from California to be with him and urged him to go back with them, where it was hoped the climate would help him. He became worse while on the way and upon reaching his sisters home was put to bed where he slept peacefully away.
Nels was born near Austin, Minnesota and was 52 years of age. He came here with his parents from Austin 37 years ago. His father died many years ago and he then stayed with his mother in the old home until her death a few years ago. Since then he has lived alone, until last Spring when Mr. & Mrs. H. W. Johnson rented the home and he made his home with them.
The funeral took place Sunday at two o'clock from the M.E. Church Rev. Grace Downs officiating.
The church was filled, many coming from a distance to attend.
Interment was in Fairview Cemetery beside his mother and father.
The Quarette, consisting of James Aitchison, Prof. Mark, Dolly Bean, and Mrs. J. C. Guin with Mrs. W. L. Junkin at the piano rendered very beautiful selections. The flowers were lovely, a blanket of Roses entirely covered the casket was sent by the citizens of the village, showing their sympathy in the loss of a fellow citizen.
