He was a clothier in Sudbury. In 1794, he purchased 14 acres of the Fairservice farm in Colrain from Eliphalet Whiting. He added to it later, buying from Calvin Smith in 1804, and more of the Fairservice farm, as well as part of the Clark farm in 1810.

Son of Hopestill Willis and Olive (Smith) Willis. They were married at Sudbury,MA on May 1,1766.

He married Martha Snow on Jan 1,1797.

Children: Asaph Willis, Sarah Snow Willis Smith, an infant son, George Washington Willis, Ann McGee Willis Johnson, Daniel Willis Jr, Aurelia Spaulding Willis Winslow, Olive Snow Willis Smith, Louisa Willis Noyes, Mary Snow Willis Hoyt, John Milton Willis, and Nancy Willis.
