US Congressman. A member of the Republican Party, he served California's 33rd District in the US House of Representatives from 1979 until 1983. Raised in Long Beach, California, he served with the US Army Air Corps in the European Theater during World War II; Grisham, (who received a Purple Heart) was shot down over Germany and became a prisoner of war. Upon returning home, he earned his BA in Economics from Whittier College in 1949, and furthered his education at the University of Southern California. In 1958 he established Wayne Grisham Realty, and initiated his political career in 1970, serving as a member of La Mirada City Council, and later as mayor of La Mirada, California. Following his terms in Congress, Grisham was appointed by President Reagan to serve as director of the Peace Corps in Kenya in 1983; he later served in the California State Assembly from 1985 until 1988. He died of respiratory failure due to pneumonia.
