January 22, 1924 - December 27, 2022 Former First Lady of La Mirada, Millie Grisham, passed away December 27, 2022 at the age of 98. Millie was born January 22, 1924 in Womar, Kansas, one of five girls, to John and Alda Watt. Her family moved to Long Beach, CA when she was 12 years old. She attended Jordan High School where she met the love of her life, Wayne Grisham. Millie and Wayne dated throughout high school and were married in 1944 while he was in the service and stationed in Windsor Locks, Connecticut. They started their family in Long Beach and moved to La Mirada in 1966, where Wayne had opened his real estate office. Millie was active in the La Mirada Ebell Club, the local Republican Women's Club and the Angel Tree Program, as well as an active board member of the PTA. In 1970 Wayne was elected to the La Mirada City Council, where he served two terms as Mayor and that began their political life together. They lived in Washington, D.C. from 1978-1982 while Wayne was a U.S. Congressman, then in Kenya, Africa from 1983-84 while Wayne was the Director of the Peace Corps. In 1984 Wayne was elected to the State Assembly and they lived In Sacramento for his two terms in office. Millie enjoyed playing bridge, card games and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She will be remembered for her radiant smile, her kindness and generosity to others and her beautiful red hair. Millie was predeceased by her husband, Wayne, in 2011. She is survived by her big sister, Trudy Nickerson (age 104!) and her baby sister, Mary Ellen Pyfer, and her three children Cathy (Lance) Brooks, Randy (Evelyn) Grisham and Kellie (Jerry) Campbell, seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday January 27, 2023 @ 10:00 am at Morningstar Christian Chapel in Whittier, CA.
